The Yarn Room Twist
You will need:
2 x 100g Artesano Aran
2 x 50g Artesano Alpaca DK Or 1 x artesano 4 ply
I have used Mahagony in Artesano Aran and Bonbon in Artesano Alpaca DK
12mm Straight Needles
Yarn sewing needle
Instructions:
Cast on 20 stitches using a Provisional Cast on and waste yarn (see notes below). Join in your main yarns knitting one strand of Aran and one of DK together throughout the pattern.
Work 155cm in garter stitch. Cut the yarn leaving a tail about 5 times the width of the scarf. Thread this tail onto a yarn needle.
Unpick the provisional cast on to create a set of 20 live stitches. Place these stitches on a knitting needle. You now have 2 sets of stitches on needles.
Put a twist in the scarf before grafting the ends together using Kitchener Stitch (see below).
Weave in your ends.
Note:
Provisional Cast on:
Cast on 20 stitches using a piece of waste yarn ideally something quite different from your main yarn. Cotton is ideal.
Then join in the main yarns and knit as normal.
Kitchener Stitch:
Hold the 2 needles parallel with the tips on your right. One needle will be to the front and one to the back.
**Front needle: Insert the yarn needle into the first stitch as if to knit. Pull the needle through and slip the stitch off. Insert the yarn needle into the second stitch as if to purl, pull the yarn through and leave the stitch on the needle.
Back needle: Insert the yarn needle into the first stitch as if to Purl. Pull the needle through and slip the stitch off. Insert the yarn needle into the second stitch as if to knit, pull the yarn through and leave the stitch on the needle. ***
Repeat from ** to *** until you have 2 stitches left one on each needle.
Front needle insert the yarn needle as if to knit, pull through and slip the stitch off.
Back needle insert the yarn needle as if to purl, pull through and slip the stitch off.
Alternative Yarn Suggestions:
For Schoppel Wolle Pur cast on 22 stitches on 10mm needle. Use one 100g skein for a shorter Twist and 2 skeins for a full length Twist.
