My name is Stephanie Kennedy. I have been knitting since I was five. My father once said of me; “If I gave Stephanie some wire wool, she would knit me a bike!”.
I never quite stretched to my father’s vision of a knitted bike but I have always enjoyed turning whatever I or others could imagine into reality through yarn.
From my first major (at the time!) project at the age of eight – an uneven skirt full of holes to beautiful Kaffe Fasset designs and now to knitted and felted decorations, I have always loved the easy creative freedom of knitting. To paraphrase Walt Disney, if you can dream it you can knit it!
I run my business from a small village in the Wicklow Mountains in Ireland. The surroundings inspire me to create but the availability of imaginative and quality yarn and design through retail outlets certainly hasn’t inspired me.
To remedy the supply of outdated and plain dull knitting materials that I found in shops, I decided to set up The Yarn Room. I have set out to find new, interesting, funky and colourful yarns and crafts that I can enjoy and share with others in The Yarn Room. I hope you find kitting and craft materials that inspire you in The Yarn Room.
I was first taught to knit by my mother. The Yarn Room has a particular emphasis on products and gifts that will encourage children to become knitters. One of the great things about knitting is how it encourages mother and child interaction as the skill is passed on and the creation of beautiful, fun items is enjoyed by young and old.
I have years of knitting experience. If we don’t stock an item you would love to see or if you just want a little advice on knitting, ask me. My phone and email details are below. Right now we just interact online with customers.
The Yarn Room, Moneystown, Roundwood, County Wicklow, Ireland.
